A documentary about the life of Baroness Angela Burdett-Coutts, through the lives of the residents of Holly Village, constructed in 1863.

A neo-gothic tower silhoutted against a grey sky.
The back window of an intimate neo-gothic garden.
The drainpipe at the side of a slate roof.
Chimney stacks on a slate roof against a grey sky.
The side of a neo-gothic building framed by trees.
Two garden tables in lush green grass.

DEVELOPMENT

Created for the Paul Mellon Centre Undergraduate 'British Art in Motion' Film Competition. I had came across Angela Burdett-Coutts previously and was keen to tell her story. I planned to use Super8 Film to capture the dreamy nostalgia of the village, combined with resident interviews.

The film was a production challenge- requiring permission to film such an intimate space. It was through meeting the character of Ralph Bowmaker; interior designer, eccentric, and socialite, that the film finally came together.

An inviting wooden doorway set behind neo-gothic arches.
Gothic arches with greenery behind.
A red rose, with neo-gothic architecture in the background.

The film won a prize from the Paul Mellon Centre.
