DEVELOPMENT
The Shedding was a collaboration between myself and Lakkaya Palmer: a PhD student studying masculinity and Horror. Inspired by the practical effects of the 1980s, we vowed to create a body horror film that combined all the gooeyness of Cronenberg with the racial consciousness of Jordan Peele.
We were blessed early on to work with actress Jasmine Rachelle, along with makeup artist Rebecca Thomas-Punter– who were both instrumental in shaping this gruesome transformation at the heart of the film.
For me this film was a welcome step up, it required learning about Production forms, talent support, permission slips, music recording, foley, and so much more. Managing a large crew over a long period of time was a challenge, but one I found very rewarding.

The Shoot
Some Crew form a pyramid (for the film, I'm sure).
We shot over two nights at the UCL institute of education - almost as scary as the film itself! Spending time with collaborators I care about, having fun creating scares was a wonderful experience. The turnaround was tight, but we were able to knuckle down and get everything we needed.
